Throwback win: Howell 7-0 for first time since 1963 after grinding down Novi

NOVI — If any grainy black-and-white Howell football game film from 1963 still exists, it would look something like this.

Unlike some games earlier this season, there was no trickery, no secrets to what the Highlanders were out to accomplishment against Novi Friday night.

Their game plan was an open book.

The plays were predictable, but they dared Novi to stop them.

In a throwback to what Howell football must have looked like 61 years ago — really, to what it looked like last year — the fifth-ranked Highlanders ran the ball on all but one of their 52 plays to beat eighth-ranked Novi, 35-21, in a clash for first place in the KLAA West.
